SODIUM BICHROMATE ANALYSIS CERTIFICATE

What is Sodium Bichromate?

Molecular Formula (Sodium Bichromate): Na2Cr2O7

Molecular Weight: 261.97 g/mol

Chemical Name: Sodium Bichromate

CAS Number: 10588-01-9/7789-12-0 (Dihydrate)

It is a chemical substance expressed as Sodium Bichromate or Sodium Dichromate. It is an extremely dangerous chemical for human health. In terms of properties, it is very similar to the chemical Potassium Dichromate. In fact, both are red-colored chemicals.

It is obtained as a result of the complete conversion of the element chromium into this chemical. It is the starting material for the production of almost all other chromate compounds.

Other Names Are As Follows;

  • Dichromic Acid Disodium Salt
  • Sodium Dichromate
  • Soda Bichromate
  • Wood Preservative
  • Chromic Acid Sodium Salt
  • Sodium Dichromate Dihydrate

How is it Produced?

Starting materials for the production of Sodium Bichromate include sodium chromate and sulfuric acid. It is also passed through carbon dioxide gas.

In the production reaction, sodium bicarbonate and sodium sulfate are precipitated by the evaporation of the sodium dichromate solution. Therefore, sodium bicarbonate and sodium sulfate are removed before the crystallization process during the reaction.

What are the Physical and Chemical Properties?

It is found in solid form. It has a color that turns red or orange in physical appearance.

It is a chemical found in hygroscopic form.

It is odorless.

The melting point is 356.5 °C.

The boiling point is 400 °C. It starts to decompose after this temperature.

Its density is 2.5 g/cm³.

In terms of solubility, it has very good solubility in water.

Its solubility in water at 25 °C is 185 g/100 g water. It also has very good solubility in methyl alcohol.

It has an oxidizing property that ensures the gelation of Pvp K-30 when it comes into contact with the Pvp K-30 compound.

What are the Usage Areas of Sodium Bichromate?

  • Slime occurs due to bacteria and yeasts found in processing waters from breweries. Sodium dichromate is used in the production of biocides used to prevent these bacteria and yeasts.
  • In forest products manufacturing, i.e., in the lumber sector, decay and bacterial formation occur on wood over time. For these reasons, it takes on a brown state. It is used to prevent wood rot and to prevent rot fungus on wood.
  • It is used as a fungicide against wood-boring insects with pressure washing in areas where wood products are stored.
  • It is used as a pigment donor in the production of some chemical substances.
  • It is used as a coloring agent in green-produced bottle glasses.
  • It is used in the textile industry and in the leather tanning field.
  • It is used as a corrosion inhibitor in some areas to prevent oxidation.
  • It is used in match manufacturing.

What are the Factors Affecting Prices?

Sodium Bichromate price is directly variable with the prices of the chemical substances used in its production. As the prices of sodium chromate and sulfuric acid used in its production rise, the prices of this chemical will increase worldwide.

Sodium Dichromate prices vary depending on the usage areas. After a certain period, the leather industry gained importance worldwide. With the volumetric expansion of the leather sector, the prices of this chemical substance have increased.

With the increase in the production of many chromium compounds, sodium dichromate prices have increased.
