It is a compound formed by the magnesium element with 2 chlorine ions, which are halogens. It has many areas of use as a magnesium source.

It is also known as chloromagnesite. It is one of the most abundant cations in the human body. It is also one of the most abundant cations within the cell.

Water release occurs as a result of the reaction.

It has highly hygroscopic properties. It absorbs moisture from the air.

What are the Usage Areas of Magnesium Chloride?

  • It is the most important compound used in the production of magnesium metal.
  • It is an important compound for erosion control.
  • ‘Sorel Cement’ is produced by mixing magnesium oxide with this magnesium compound. The material produced in this way has a very hard structure.
  • MgCl2 in liquid form is used to prevent dust formation on non-asphalt roads.
  • It is a raw material used in the production of fireproof materials.
  • It is a substance used in the production of skin care materials in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors.
  • It is used instead of Magnesium Sulfate and Magnesium Hydroxide in the production of some medicines. It has higher bioavailability than magnesium sulfate and magnesium oxide. It also does not require stomach acid to dissolve.
  • It is used in the production of fire extinguishing chemicals.
  • In antifreeze production, it further increases the effectiveness of Mono Ethylene Glycol and Mono Propylene Glycol compounds, which are the raw materials for antifreeze, and lowers the freezing point even further. For this reason, it is an additive in antifreeze production.
  • It is used in paper manufacturing, refrigerated brines, and disinfectant manufacturing.
  • It is purified from water by forming a chelated structure with EDTA.
  • In the production of fire-resistant plywood, it is used together with Magnesium Oxide to ensure fire resistance. To make plywood fire-resistant, the resin used must contain flame retardant substances.
