What is Vitamin E?
Molecular Formula (Vitamin E): C31H52O3
Molecular Weight: 472.70 g/mol
Chemical Name: Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate
CAS Number: 58-95-7
It has the strongest antioxidant properties among tocopherols. The antioxidant property of this chemical compound stems from the phenolic hydrogen on the core.
Vitamins cannot be produced by the human body. However, they are compounds necessary for growth and maintenance. They are organic substances.
It is an indispensable part of skin care products. Nutrients taken into the body are converted into energy. Free radicals are formed while these nutrients are converted into energy. These are harmful substances for the body. Vitamin E Acetate is an important compound for preventing these free radicals.
It has the property of protecting Vitamin C from oxidation.
Other Names are as Follows;
- Tocopheryl Acetate
- Alpha Tocopherol
- Tocopherol
- Tocopherol Acetate
How is Vitamin E Produced?
There is no detailed production information regarding this chemical compound.
What are the Physical and Chemical Properties?
It has an odorless white crystalline structure.
Boiling Point is 363 °F.
Melting Point is 82 °F.
In terms of solubility, it dissolves in less than 1 mg/ml at 63 °F. There are water-soluble and fat-soluble forms.
Its density is around 0.95 g/cm3.
What are the Usage Areas of Vitamin E?
- Used in medicines produced as dietary supplements for people with Vitamin E deficiency.
- Used to inhibit free radicals in some cosmetic products due to its fat-soluble antioxidant property. Here, it has protective effects on the cell membrane.
- It is used as an antioxidant in cosmetic products produced to eliminate free radicals that cause skin aging.
- The skin ages prematurely as a result of ultraviolet rays and lipid peroxidation. DL-Alpha Tocopheryl, an important compound, is used in skin care creams to delay such skin aging.
- Used in antiseptic hydrogels in preparations used for wound closure to speed up the wound healing process and ensure cell regeneration.
- The most important factor in the working principle of the Vitamin E Acetate molecule is that they break the chain by preventing peroxyl groups, which cause lipid oxidation, from jumping to other lipids.
- It can be used as a natural antioxidant in tomato paste production to prevent spoilage.
- Used by being modified with Silicon in the manufacture of creams that serve to increase enzyme activity in the skin.
- The chemical used to neutralize groups such as tocopherol radicals is Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C).
- Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate and tocopherol are used topically to meet the vitamin E needs of the skin.
- Among the most common usage areas, it is used as a preservative in the manufacture of stick cosmetic products, namely lipsticks.
- Used as a preservative in dermatological pastes, in Vaseline, in hair stylers, and in the production of sexual lubricants.
- Vitamin E is used as a preservative compound in the production of carriers in therapeutic substances.
- Human lips do not have the Stratum Corneum and outer layer. Therefore, lip dryness and cracking occur in winter months. Unlike other skin, there are no sweat glands in the lip structure. Therefore, there is no moisture source for the lip structure other than saliva. For this reason, dryness and cracking occur on the lips in winter months. Lip balms are produced to prevent this, and Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate is used in their manufacture.
- Used in very low amounts as a preservative in wet wipe production. Additionally, a Phenoxyethanol/Ethylhexylglycerin mixture is used.
- Alpha Tocopherol is used in insect repellent sprays to nourish the skin during application to the body after being sprayed.
- Vitamin E (Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate) is used as a preservative in the production of wound creams containing Sodium Fusidate as an active ingredient.
- In the treatment of obesity, it is used together with cold-pressed black cumin oil to help both weight loss and the relief of liver disorders.
- Used in the manufacture of nail strengthening compositions produced to strengthen brittle and weak nails.
- Used together with plant extracts in the production of eyelash nourishing lotions, it protects the moisture of the eyelashes and provides benefits for strengthening the eyelashes.
- Used in creams produced to prevent puffiness and dark circles under the eyes by being used together with Caffeine.
- Used as a preservative for Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) in the manufacture of oral care products produced to prevent the formation of periodontal diseases.
What are the Factors Affecting Its Prices?
Vitamin E Acetate is an expensive substance. The price of this chemical substance increases depending on developments in the medical and cosmetic sectors.
As the prices of the raw materials used in its production increase, the price of Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate will increase.
As companies selling Vitamin E increase their stocks, prices may experience a short-term decrease.
